TDays of Leica and ink
Writing week
The photography continues with the Leica this week, but a writing course has also snuck its way in.
Yesterday turned out to be an exciting day, mostly spent writing with paper and pencil.
For a while we worked on the didactic cinquain.
A bit tricky to get a grip on how it actually works, but the structure is at least fairly fixed — five lines:
One noun – the subject
Two adjectives – describing the subject
Three verbs – what the subject does
A four-word phrase – a thought or feeling connected to the subject
One noun or synonym – summing up the subject

Days of Leica and ink
Evening by the Svartån
Once the course day was over, it was off to a meet-up with the Prisma photo group, this time at Svanå, by the Svartån river.
A few brave souls from the group walked around taking pictures, along with Roffe who, faithful as always, did a full lap and then some.
I got a few frames from there, both of the place itself and of photographers in action.
The water lay still between the rocks, and the greenery stood thick all the way down to the edge.
At the same time my head felt completely worn out after the writing course that started yesterday.
So just getting to sit down, bring out the sponge cake, muffins and something to drink, and then relax and listen to what they’re saying — that was rather nice.
Yesterday, at least.
Not that I remember much of what they talked about, probably cameras and where the next meet-up would be.

Today’s course
Today the writing course got more interesting, and I think I’m starting to find my footing there.
The idea is to bring some of what I learn along to the blog.
Nothing I’ll be doing right away, though — for now it’s mostly about getting this text out fairly quickly and then resting my head after the day’s adventure.

Maya Angelou and the overhead sheets
Maya Angelou and the overhead sheets
For the last half hour we were to try writing something in the manner of an author, and I got Maya Angelou.
She died on 28 May 2014, aged 86 — an American poet, author and civil rights activist, best known for her autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.
What caught my eye in the room were the old overhead sheets, the writing still etched into them from earlier courses.
I wondered whether I should bring along some miracle cleaner to make them shiny and new again.
And this is how it might sound with Maya Angelou’s rhythm and weight — where the everyday is lifted, sentences roll long and are broken by short ones, with sensory detail and a certain dignity:
The room carried its old overhead sheets the way a person carries their history — not with shame, but with a weary dignity.
The writing was still there, etched and burned in from courses that had long since ended, words from voices that once filled the air in that room and then fell silent.
And I stopped.
I thought that maybe I should bring something along, an agent strong enough and yet gentle enough to lift away the years and let the surface turn clear again.
Fine again.
As if it still had something left to say.
The course runs until Friday evening.
