Autumn comes creeping

Autumn comes creeping

For a while I walked around thinking I would photograph everyone with a phone in their hand.

It’s everywhere, after all, that tilted neck, that hand holding something small and glowing.

But the further I walked, the clearer it became that the city had no intention of sticking to my theme.

It wanted to show me something else.

Autumn comes creeping

So it turned out mixed instead

Instead it became big hats and leopard print outside a shop window.

It became food trucks on the cobblestones, baked potatoes and pasta, a happy Enrico with his lunch in his hands.

It became a girl on the football pitch with her hand on her hip, a goal scorer smiling straight into the camera.

And in the evening it became a light festival down by the quay, with the skyline over the water.

No common thread, then.

Just a day that wanted to be several things at once.

The one with the big lens

Then there stood a young guy looking down at his pictures.

The lens was big, too big for street, I thought.

Maybe a beginner who doesn’t yet dare to go close.

That’s the hardest part, after all, getting close enough.

Still, I recognised myself, because we have all stood there once, with too much glass in front of us and too little courage.

Bandy, and only one picture

Bandy, and only one picture

On Friday it was bandy.

VSK against Frillesås BK, and before the match I took a single picture with the Leica, Frillesås gathered in a ring on the ice.

The Leica got to come along, but it is no sports camera.

Nor should it be.

It should go slowly, it should stop, it should look.

And Svartån, taking it easy

And Svartån, taking it easy

In the end it became Svartån.

It runs slowly down through the old town, past the wooden houses on their stone footings, and it is in no hurry anywhere.

I stood there for a while.

No phone in my hand, no plan, just water reflecting houses that have stood there longer than I have.

It didn’t become a day about phones.

It became a day about walking.
