VSK runs over Skirö – 21–1 in the premiere

There are matches that are decided in the last minute.

And then there are matches that are decided already in the first stride.

Yesterday, in the season premiere against Skirö AIK, it was the second kind.

VSK won by a full 21–1 – and there was a mean machine in the team.

VSK – Skirö AIK

One team, one movement

From the first face-off, VSK was better in every position.

Not stressed, not forced, but with a pleasant calm that the whole team played with.

Green-White worked all the way, from top to bottom, and that is exactly why it became a team effort in the true sense of the word.

Moreover, there was a thought behind every stride.

VSK steered Skirö to where they wanted them – towards the boards, away from the goal, into corners where there was no way out.

Karla Thuresson made her way between blue-clad opponents with her eyes forward, and in the duels she didn’t give an inch.

The ball found its way home

Then came the goals.

And they kept coming.

Already at half-time it was 10–1, and Skirö’s goalkeeper Karlsson had to throw herself down on the ice again and again, on her knees, with her pads out and her arms wide.

Sometimes it was enough.

Most often it was not.

Galina Mikhaylova wound up for a shot with three opponents around her, and when the ball bounced loose in front of the goal, Elin Palm was first on the spot.

Edit Ljung accounted for five of the goals – and received the hugs accordingly.

Charlotte Selbekk scored four, Elsa Oras three.

But above all, there were many names on the list, and that says something about a team where everyone carries the load.

A sloppy goal, nothing more

Sure, Skirö got onto the scoreboard once.

But a sloppy goal is the kind of thing that happens, and it never felt worrying that Skirö would threaten Green-White.

At the back VSK kept order, and players like Hilda Kolsmyr had control of the game the whole time.

Practice in scoring goals

Practice in scoring goals

With 21–1 you can almost call this match practice in scoring goals.

A few times there was a bit too much fiddling, it must be said.

But here in the first match of the season it was still nice with a few extra goals.

Because that is how a season begins best – not with a breath of relief, but with a team that rises, takes its place and shows who they are.
