Saturday in Västerås

A lie-in? No, breakfast is calling

As usual, my Saturday in Västerås starts with a good breakfast and piping hot coffee.

You lie there thinking maybe you’ll have a bit of a lie-in, but that’s just not possible when breakfast is calling.

A tip I have, and find really tasty, is to add a teaspoon of coconut oil — the flavourless kind — to the coffee.

It gives a smooth taste that adds that little something extra.

Saturday in Västerås

When the rain poured down

Once I’d got myself sorted, off I went for a Saturday coffee at Global Living.

I parked the car at Blåsbo, almost down by the football pitches, and from there I walked calmly.

Even though I tried to keep to the shade all the way down to the café, I was still pretty sweaty by the time I had my first cup of coffee.

There was a bit of chatting about this and that, but not much more than that today.

The shade in Vasaparken

From there I took a stroll down towards Vasaparken.

Once there, I sat down on a bench and just soaked up the day, in a spot where the shade was more than welcome.

Good thing I bring drinks and fruit along on my walks.

I stayed a while and watched people passing by — and the horse and cart that managed two laps while I sat there on the bench.

Music in the square

Music in the square

On the way back I stopped by the square again, one of the highlights of this Saturday in Västerås.

There I took the chance to photograph my photographer friend and musician Janke, who was performing in the middle of Västerås.

Nicklas Sandström on bass and Janke Jönsson on acoustic guitar were on stage, and it was a lovely moment to linger over before I moved on.

After that, it was just the walk back to the car — a fine end to a Saturday in Västerås.

28 degrees and 5.5 kilometres — I reckon I can be really pleased with that as today’s exercise.
