Back in the forest

The bird photography starts now.

I have started putting out food at our spot, where we hopefully get the nutcracker to come down.

It’s a hope, not a promise.

But that is where everything begins.

Bird photography

Day two

Today was day number two after the break.

I started yesterday, and then I had a single bird visiting.

A jay, with a whole smorgasbord laid out just for himself.

Today he got company.

Two more jays, which I took to be a pair, and suddenly it wasn’t a smorgasbord any more but a fight over the seeds.

A whole gang

A whole gang

Then the coal tits arrived.

A whole gang of them, in and out, down and up, never still for more than a moment at a time.

They land on a stump, bend their heads, call, and are gone again.

The chaffinch, on the other hand, was more shy.

It didn’t come down for any seeds, not that I saw anyway.

What I didn’t see

And then there are always the ones who are there anyway.

The Merlin app found a few that I missed completely: a siskin, a treecreeper and a goldcrest.

The goldcrest I have only managed to photograph once.

It usually sits in among the branches of the spruces, well hidden.

But if you’re lucky it’s down on the ground, pecking for food.

That’s when you get your chance.

Forest bathing

Forest bathing

One more thing.

It feels good to get out into the forest again.

Forest bathing.

Relaxation.

Call it what you like — it does the same thing to me every time.
