Two days away from the town centre

Today I was a bit more on the move, and for once I thought I’d skip the town centre.

It gets rather repetitive being there all the time, so now it’s two days in a row that I’ve stayed away.

Yesterday it was Strängnäs, and today it had to be the area around Löga strand and the Cable park.

The Rampage Action Sport Festival was going on there, a number of different sports all in one place.

Two in the air

I parked the car and walked out towards the pier, and just made it in time to photograph the last of the daredevils’ jumps.

Death diving is the extreme sport where you throw yourself off a great height as if going for a belly flop, and then fold your body up at the very last second before you hit the water.

This time I even got two of them in the same frame.

Rather nice black and white shot, with the clouds as a backdrop.

Backlight at the Cable park

After that I carried on towards the Cable park area, where there were wakeboarders, skateboarders and BMX riders pulling off enormous flips.

There was a lot of backlight here, and I think I was somewhere around f/8.

The BMX riders ended up straight above me at times, upside down against the clouds, and those are the pictures I like.

The skateboarders were pretty good too, well, half of them at least.

I didn’t stay around to find out who won, though.

Come to think of it, I didn’t do that at any of the spots.

The girls on the water

I also got a few pictures of the wakeboarders, and this time it was girls competing against each other.

The water was spraying and the crowd stood shoulder to shoulder along the edge.

But there were moments while I walked around shooting when I wished I’d brought the 70-200mm 2.8 lens, or the 300mm 2.8.

Some of the shots end up a bit distant, and especially for the wakeboarders a longer lens would have felt right.

The last quarter of an hour in the sand

The last quarter of an hour in the sand

In the end I walked back to the car, but with about 20 minutes left on the parking.

So there was time for a visit to the beach volleyball courts as well.

Volleyball was a favourite sport back in my school days, I remember.

Maybe not as much fun as football and bandy, but still.
