Towers Reaching for the Sky
How can you create so much work for yourself, now that you’re retired?
I ask myself that sometimes, and the answer comes every morning.
Every day is busy, and most of all with the Hubbo Foto app.
Like the silo towers by the harbour, it has grown, bit by bit, towards the sky.
Today it has reached 20 updates and 130 patches in Xcode.
The code is now almost 9,500 lines.
I feel I have got what I want in my photo app, so now it’s more about going through everything a few times and testing my way forward.
Things may come up that you want to fine-tune.
It would probably be too good to be true if everything was already OK.

Laila AnnMarie Stevens
Laila AnnMarie Stevens is a photographer and visual artist whose work explores identity, community, family ties and belonging.
Through her photographic storytelling she makes visible the lives and experiences of Black women, with particular focus on relationships between generations, alternative forms of family and notions of home.
In the long-term project Clayton Sisterhood Project, Stevens examines how home can be created beyond traditional definitions of family and place.
The project follows her sisters, nieces and nephews as they move from Queens in New York to land in Clayton, North Carolina.
Through intimate portraits and everyday moments she depicts how community, care and kinship shape a sense of home and grounding.
Drawing inspiration from the history of Black women, the Black Power movement’s ideas of self-determination and the longing to preserve memories of earlier generations, the photographs function as a contemporary family album.
They preserve stories of women whose experiences and relationships form a living link between the past, the present and the future.
Clayton Sisterhood Project is therefore more than a photographic documentation.
It is an investigation of sisterhood, queer kinship, migration and the possibility of creating alternative spaces for belonging.
Stevens’ images offer a close and personal insight into how Black women build their own worlds through love, care and shared memory.

The Tracks Ahead
The Tracks Ahead
At the same time, I am preparing for the App Store.
It’s good to be prepared when the ninety days on TestFlight are coming to an end.
Just like on the platform, you need to know which train you’re taking, before it leaves.
That’s why on Monday I will ask a bit about the F-tax certificate.
Some strange things came up, such as special VAT rules, and then it’s better to ask than to click wrong.

Lots of People, Little Calm
In the middle of all this, there was a coffee break at Global Living.
But today’s coffee was less cosy.
There was a hell of a racket and kids screaming, you couldn’t even hear yourself when you talked.
A bit like behind the construction fence in town: many gathered, lots of noise, and only one working.
Saturdays at this café are simply not as pleasant as a weekday with fewer people.

Locks You Can Let Go Of
Now I am testing replacements for Photoshop and Lightroom, called Photocraft and Lightcraft:
https://getartcraft.com/apps
Lightcraft is the catalogue program and Photocraft is the one meant to be the image editor.
If you can avoid working with Adobe, that would be good, it’s a fair bit of money you can spend on other things.
Like the locks on the bridge over Svartån: some things you hold on to for a long time, but not all of them have to stay forever.
On top of that, there was even an update to get hold of: lightcraft-0.5.0-macos-universal.dmg
In Lightcraft 0.4.0 there was a bug triggered by Swedish characters in file names.
Long names are cut off after 13 characters, and macOS stores å, ä and ö as two parts, for example “o” followed by a separate dots character.
When the cut lands right between the two parts, the program crashes.
I keep checking all the cases, and the program chews through all the images, which today number just over 155,000.

Like the River That Flows
Like the River That Flows
So, as I said: there is no shortage of things to keep busy with.
The days flow like Svartån through the old town.
Calm, but never still.
